First Year at School

As I mentioned in my previous post, this is my first year at public school. It's been interesting going from being a home-schooled kid to public school. I used to think waking up at 8:00 was early, now I would kill to be able to sleep till 8:00. I also used to think it was unfair when I only got one extra day on an assignment because I forgot about it. However I realize now that I didn't have a clue what unfair was. At the beginning of this year, literally the first day, I was told I couldn't have a hard copy of the homework that was due the next day. Now this is supposed to be a paperless class, and all our work is supposed to be done online. However, it was my first day at school, and we needed our student ID to login to the website. But like I said, it was my first day. I didn't know I had a student ID, much less what it was. I asked my teacher if she was able to find it out for me, she told me that she could, but that it wasn't her problem so she wouldn't. So after trying for about 30 minutes to find out my student ID, and not being successful, I asked my teacher if I was able to get a hard copy of the homework. I was told no. Here's the interesting part, the student that asked her 15 seconds earlier was told yes. I then politely asked her why I wasn't able to get a hard copy, again she told me that it wasn't her problem that I didn't have my ID and she didn't care if I failed the homework. I'm amazed that we don't have more honors students with teachers like this. I later figured out my ID, but the unfairness of the situation with my teacher was more than a little upsetting.

Several occurrences like this have happened this year. It's made me realize how prevalent injustice is in our world. It's also made me want to stop whatever injustice I'm able to stop. Some things you are forced to put up with, and sometimes others are forced to put up with things because those of us that could do something about it aren't doing something about it. I obviously can't stop every injustice in the world, but I'm going to do my best to stop whatever I can, because there are some things that people just shouldn't have to put up with.

  1. You know what's unjust???? That you credit the new Batman films as your favorite movies, and yet you deny him the ranks of best superhero.

    I love you little brother.
